Our Monkey turned 9!! That seems too weird to type....NINE?! Here's a look back from 8 to 9...
Aubrey at NINE...
- Aubrey is a reader! She really does just read for enjoyment. She gets very into books (and occasionally stays up way too late reading them). She reads really quickly and goes through book after book. If her nose is in a book, she doesn't hear a thing going on around her. It's about the only time you can bet she's not eavesdropping on your conversation! She was SO sad to end the Harry Potter series that she and Brian had been reading together for a couple years.
- She is the best sister! She is incredibly patient with Charlotte (and Carson). She loves to help take care of Charlotte (mostly) and Charlotte of course ADORES her. She and Carson continue to be best buddies, and even though they can argue with the best of them (yikes!) she always has his back.
- Aubrey has very high interpersonal intelligence, which is a fancy way of saying that she is very aware of how others feel. She is very conscientious of how her actions might affect others and pays a lot of attention to what others are doing or how they're feeling. She has a lot of empathy for others too. These are all extremely great qualities, however, it is also what causes me to worry that she doesn't always do what's best for HER. I sometimes want her to be a little selfish. Hopefully she finds a good balance.
- She loves to wear "not matching" clothes (I think maybe to spite her mother?), earrings and socks. She has declared that she is NOT a "girly girl." She hates to have her hair done and when I force her to let me curl (very rare) or use the straight iron, she gives me a limit...."you only get 7 pieces of hair." And of course, she is a big fan of the single, non-curled, non-side ponytail. However, occasionally I'll catch her playing dress up in her "fanciest" clothes and talking in her best teenager voice...
- Aubrey is perfectly fine to have one friend. She loves her BFF Addison, and doesn't seem to ever want to hang too much with anyone else. I think she's still friendly with other girls at school and will occasionally talk about other friends, but mostly it's just Addison.
- She is still an "easy" kid. Aubrey has always had a pretty calm, easy-going personality and it hasn't changed much. She works hard in school, she's responsible, she's kind, and she follows the rules. She really set us up with some high expectations for the other two!
- Aubrey loves: dessert, sleeping in, playing basketball and soccer, school, peanut butter and nuttela sandwiches, talking (that girl tells looong stories), her family, candy, getting her way, movie nights, her cousin Ella, American Ninja Warrior, being weird, ice cream, playing school, doing art projects, and being a Star Wars/Superhero nerd like her dad.
