Our friend Chris Seeger has gotten into making things with old, reclaimed wood. His projects always turn out so awesome! His wife Beth and I came up with a great project for him.... recovering my dining room table! It turned out to be WAY bigger of a project than we initially thought, but so worth the end result!
Chris and Brian took cedar planks from an old fence and stained them with a vinegar and steel wool creation. They then cut the boards and fit them to our existing table top. But first they had to extend the table a bit, so it would be a little bigger of a square. After fitting all the pieces into a big puzzle (and lots of math), they sanded the crap out of it and put about 100 coats of the top coat. Oh and as they were getting the top done I realized the old, skinny legs weren't going to look very good. So they quick made some new legs. :)
After lots of hours of work, the table was done and ready to be loaded in (wow, it's really heavy now). After the table was in it became real obvious (at least to me) that our old chairs weren't going to quite go anymore. So after a little chair shopping, we now have a basically brand new table and chairs that I LOVE!! Good work, guys!
