Pumpkin Painting and Drilling

The kids were super excited to paint pumpkins again this year.  We broke out all sorts of craft supplies and just let them go crazy.  They turned out great!

Side note:  Carson's choice of pumpkin cracked me up.  We'd been reading The Ugly Pumpkin a lot before we went to the pumpkin patch.....  In the book there's a little pumpkin who thinks he's ugly because he doesn't look like the other pumpkins.  Toward the end of the book he realizes, "Oh my gosh, I'm a squash!"  Anyway, when Carson saw that tiny little pumpkin/squash in the patch, he just had to have it! :)

We also decided to try pumpkin drilling!  Aubrey and Carson were wanting to try "carving" a pumpkin this year.....cleaning out the pumpkin guts and all.  We'd not been doing this the last couple years due to the huge mess, and the fact that the kids can't actually do any of the carving.  But I'd seen pumpkin drilling (Pinterest, of course), and thought we'd give that a try.  It was really fun.  The kids thoroughly enjoyed digging out the pumpkin guts and getting to help use dad's drill to make designs in the two big pumpkins (dad was thrilled too)!
All the pumpkins decorated our porch nicely for the big night!
