Weekend Road Trip!

A couple weekends ago, we decided it would probably be our last chance for good weather to drive down to Utah and visit my dad and grandpa.  So we loaded up Saturday morning and drove 5 hours or so to get to Ogden.  The road trip was pleasantly uneventful.  I really didn't have to do any pre-planning, and it was just kind of easy (I love you Elmo).  A very nice realization.
We got there about 1:30 on Saturday afternoon, had some lunch at my dad's and laid Charlotte down for a nap.  While she was sleeping, we went to the park across the street from my dad's and played some mean frisbee (the weather was SO nice).  That morning when we woke up, Carson felt a little warm....nothing too serious.  But by the time we got to Utah, he was very feverish and feeling terrible.  Great.  We gave him some Motrin, and went to meet my grandpa at his house.  I'm so bummed we never took any pictures with my grandpa, but we did get to have a nice visit.  He is just the sweetest guy there is.  He turned 98 years old yesterday, and just looks great.  He has definitely slowed down some since I saw him last year, but still gets around pretty well (I think he's only played a couple rounds of golf this year.....).  He'll still talk your ear off with stories of the old days, and I actually do feel like I learn something new about him every time I see him.  I wish we lived closer.  And he gives THE best hugs.
After dinner, we headed back to my dad's and Carson was DONE.  We put him to bed, and the rest of us roasted some marshmallows in the backyard.
The next day, we got to just hang and play with my dad all morning.....the kids had a blast!  And Carson was feeling totally fine!  Yay!  When it was time for my dad's church, Aubrey, Carson and I went to my friend's house for a get-together.  SO fun to see some "old" friends and their kids!  Then after dinner at my dad's, we headed to our hotel.  (We had decided to "spice it up" a little for the kids by staying in a hotel one night.)  By this time, Aubrey had caught the 24-hour bug. :(  That evening at the hotel, Aubrey was passed out in bed while Charlotte, Carson, and I explored the hotel and the cute little street the hotel was on.  I have to say, downtown Ogden is looking good these days.....lots of cute little shops and stores.  It was a really nice place!  Thankfully, the next morning Aubrey woke up and was feeling better.  We had a HUGE breakfast at the hotel, swam in the pool, and then went to meet my dad for some fun at Fat Cat's (think indoor arcade/games).  Both Aubrey and Carson won "the jackpot" of tickets on a game, so they were thrilled!  After some lunch, we hit the road for home.  Again, pretty uneventful drive.....nice!
It was great to see my dad and grandpa and for the kids to be able to spend some time with them.  It was a quick trip (there for a total of just over 48 hours and 2 sick kids), but we had fun and I'm glad we went.  And I'm definitely glad we went when we did because the next weekend, Ogden got 6-8 inches of SNOW!

Good job taking pictures! I'm terrible about taking pictures in those situations. Looks like you guys had a great time!
