Camping!

I decided that this summer we needed to take our FIRST family camping trip.  Aubrey and Carson were SOOOOO excited.  Brian was a little less excited.  Some friends and I picked a weekend, decided on a spot, and made it happen!
We went to Lake Cascade and got a great campsite!  Lots of grass for the little kids to play on, right on the water and next to a dock (one of the families has a boat).  We got up there (about 2+ hours away) at dinner time on Friday.  We did discover on this trip up into the mountains that Charlotte apparently gets carsick......UGH!!  So after scraping puke off her and out of her carseat onto the side of the road, we finally made it.  We enjoyed dinner, played, rode bikes, roasted marshmallows, and when the sun finally went down about 10:00 we got the kids to bed.  Charlotte was not super pumped to be put to bed in a TENT!  And it was SUPER cold!  She ended up sleeping with Brian and me that night.....which basically means none of us got much sleep.  It got down to 36 degrees that night...brrrrr!
The next morning we were excited to see the sun.  We had baggie omelets for breakfast....yum!  Then we had a fun, fun day of fishing on the boat, more riding bikes, playing games, eating, napping, and just enjoying the "great outdoors!"  We roasted some hot dogs for dinner, made some s'mores, played some more, and got the kids to bed as the sun went down.  The second night was about 10 degrees warmer, and that made all the difference (that and we were all exhausted).  Charlotte stayed in her crib all night which meant Brian and I could actually sleep.  Aubrey and Carson got to sleep in the Seeger's tent with their HEATER (we've got to get one of those)!
We had such a great time, and the kids are already asking when we can go again!!
A few funny/sad/annoying things about our trip:
Our kids had had pink eye the week before our camping trip.  They were better and thankfully hadn't passed it onto Charlotte, so we thought we were good to go.  However, the day we were leaving Brian woke up with the beginnings of an itchy, dry eye.  It wasn't enough to cancel the trip, but as you can see from one of the pictures, it got worse as the days went on and the campfire didn't do much to help it.  Poor guy!!  He was a trooper though!
Also, the Mauk's kids woke up the first morning there with the FLU!  They ended up having to pack it in after being there less than 24 hours...sad!
And finally, Charlotte getting carsick on the way up was NOT a one-time deal.

Other than that, it was really fun and I'm so glad we braved it and went!  We might even try to sneak one more weekend trip in before the summer is over.....

It looks like so much fun!!! Despite the puking and pink eye, plus the freezing temperatures, it looks like an awesome trip. Gorgeous pictures, too!! All the green and trees...it doesn't look like that in the summer in Texas. Wish we could go together!!
