Day 2 in Hawaii was hiking day. We decided we wanted to drive up north and hike along the Napali Coast. We mapped out a hike and hit the road. It took us about an hour to get there in our jeep...such a pretty drive! It was actually a little cooler that day, which we thought would be perfect for hiking. We parked the jeep at the bottom of the trail, and started off! It was 2 miles to the beach, and then another 2 miles up to the waterfall, Hanakapi'a Falls. Yes, we realized this was 8 miles roundtrip, but for some reason, it didn't seem like it would be that long?! Well, it was long. I think we underestimated the kind of hiking it would be....water crossings, lots of rocky terrain, climbing, and lots of uphill! It was a great hike. We just wished we would have brought FOOD! Luckily, we did bring water, but it didn't last that long either. Beth and I were also breaking in our new "Hawaii hiking/exploring shoes." Not the best idea. We ended up making the boys give us their socks so our sandals would stop rubbing our feet!
But the waterfall was amazing!! We all got in the FREEZING water (and I mean FREEZING), and the boys made the swim to the bottom of the waterfall. It was a really cool hike. We were, however, very glad to make it back to our car (over 6 hours later). We slept really well that night! And could mostly walk the next day...
