Our little Bug is NINE years old!! For the kid that always seemed older than he is, I really can't believe he is actually NINE! Here's a look back at Huggy Buggy from eight to nine...
Carson at NINE:
- Carson is athletic. He found a new love of basketball this year. He played an almost four month long season and loved every minute of it! He also tried lacrosse for the first time this year. Even though he fell back into his old habit of crying and complaining about having to go to practices, he ended the season really liking it. And he got pretty good too! He is fun to watch.
- Carson continues his love/hate relationship with school, homework, and reading. Well, except he only ever hates homework. He goes through phases with school....he is actually doing well right now, but we had plenty of mornings (and evenings prior) of whining and fits about having to go to school. Not fun. However, he (thankfully) continues to be a model student. His teacher raves about how responsible and respectful he is. If Carson gets into a book, he flies through it! He got hooked on an author, Jake Maddox, who wrote a bunch of sports books, and he read every one of them! Getting him to start a new book can be a challenge...
- He has the BEST "concentration face." Any time Carson is concentrating....throwing or catching a ball, playing a game, mostly anything active, he makes this great face.....squinty eyes and mouth wide open! I love it. He does not.
- I have loved watching his and Aubrey's relationship grow and change over time. They are still such good buddies. They can play and have a great time together, even though they don't hang as much. They make each other laugh! I know he really looks up to her. She knows how to push his buttons, but (mostly) doesn't. And he is much more likely to cooperate if it's something Aubrey wants. Charlotte on the other hand.....
- Those two are still figuring things out. Carson doesn't have quite as much patience for her. And Charlotte knows how to push his buttons, and does. They are actually very similar, and therefore, have a harder time getting along. However, he can also be very sweet with her. I look forward to seeing how their relationship grows, especially since Aubrey is getting older and isn't around as much.
- Carson loves and needs his down time. He does NOT like to be too scheduled. Even though whenever he "has to" go somewhere, he usually ends up having fun, getting him there is not easy. He doesn't love change. Brian and I try to give him lots of advance notice if something is changing or coming up. Carson is becoming much more aware of the struggles he has with controlling his emotions and frustration, and is really working on it. He is much more receptive to suggestions and help than he used to be.
- Carson tried to move to his own room this year. He was so excited! We moved all his stuff downstairs and set up his "man cave." It lasted one week. By the second week he was crying every night that he was scared and didn't like being in his own room. After about 3 weeks, we finally let him move his mattress back upstairs with the girls. We left everything else in the downstairs bedroom, so I now call it his "fake bedroom." Maybe next year?!
- He is so sensitive. He wears his heart on his sleeve, which terrifies me as his mom. But it also makes him a good friend and such a sweet kid. He will still cuddle with me during our movie nights and gives lots of hugs!
- Carson loves: his screen time, burping as loud as he can, playing with friends, anything basketball, his blankets, weekends, video games, being active, eating, alone time, arguing, his family, being outside, teasing his sisters, drawing, jumping on the trampoline, throwing the ball with his dad, and dessert.
We love you, Bubba!
